On 28 June 1914, a Serbian student shoots in the Bosnian capital Sarajevo the Austro-Hungarian Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife. The echo of shots echoed across Europe and brought the whole continent tremble. Only weeks later, French, British and Belgians, Russians, Serbs, Austrians, Italians and German had mobilized their armies: The First World War had begun.

Objectively and based on new historical research records this documentation after the events of the years 1914 to 1918. The comprehensive presentation of the military effort, the operational procedures, new weapons development and political objectives of the various warring parties also allows glimpses behind the scenes of the official presentation of history.

Complementary to the historical documentation of the features on an extra DVD included, resulting in the 30's movie "Douaumont - The hell of Verdun" to the history and the battle for the strategically important Fort Douaumont. The objective of those events held filming was using authentic recordings, and the participation of ex-combatants.

After the German High Command had decided to attack Verdun, were from February to October 1916 in a confined space, compared with 70 French and 46 German divisions. 5000 guns of all kinds crushed with 22 million rounds of the enemy positions. 1,000 shell impacts per square meter - a gruesome statistics of war.
In a ball of iron, fire, noise and terror within months, one million people died!
