Color films from the period before 1945 are among the most interesting sources of recent German history. Since they are extremely rare to find, it often takes years before the material is gathered for a new documentary. But well worth the effort: The privately turned color films allow us a fresh look behind the scenes and documenting the normality of a time that today seems extraordinary. It is this point of view is of historical importance, but it shows that the Third Reich had many faces: love and pain, friendship and longing, fear and terror, victory and defeat.
The documentary "The brown in color" tells in fascinating colors stories behind the story. The unique recordings make comprehensible what disguise naked facts and data, and form a living bridge in the years from 1933 to 1939.
