Description
With around 15,000 aircraft produced, the Ju 88 was the most frequently built Junkers aircraft of the Second World War. A special variant was the Ju 88P-1, which was specially developed as a dedicated armored combat aircraft in response to requests from units on the Eastern Front. Equipped with an impressive 75 mm PaK 40 tank cannon with a large muzzle brake, the production aircraft required a reinforced unglazed nose. The aircraft was tested operational in 1943, but it was found to be unwieldy and vulnerable to enemy aircraft. The prototype version, known as the Ju 88P V1, was equipped with a 75mm Kwk 39 anti-tank gun and was basically a modified A-4 version.
